whenever i am in a bike shop i immediately turn into this open-mouthed five-year old child inside a toy store unable to speak a coherent paragraph let alone complete a sentence. all you will hear from me are “uy“, “uuuuuy“, “uy!“, and “!uy!” — its the equivalent of “omg! omg! omg! omg! omg!” but with lesser syllables.
a couple of days ago i met up with a friend of mine at cristy’s bike shop to look at what’s new at cristy’s and hopefully take some photos. and as expected — i gawked and the camera sort of stammered so these were the precious few photos that i was able to take. i’m officially calling it a disorder.
but i did see some yummy stuff. i promise to take more photos the next time i visit.
these are the handlebars that i’m going to use on the fixed. it was either a riser bar or bullhorns. a riser bar is the one you’d normally see on a bmx bike. i don’t know but i have this thing about bullhorns. in my old bike i used to have drop bars—the kind that you’d normally see on racer bikes—that i replaced with bullhorns. i liked the feel of the horns so i decided to get the bullhorns that i really liked ever since i saw them for this build.
these are the nitto rb018 bullhorns from cristy’s.
and the book is k.w. jeter’s blade runner 2: the edge of human. yup. sequel.
i’ve always wondered how its like to ride in another city on the planet. i’m thankful to guys like these who take time to video what its like to ride in their city. this one is from paris, france. it seems nice to bike there. there seem to be less vehicles on the roads that the riders take. but everyone knows that its always different when you’re there already riding the streets.
yeah. one of these days.
after my bike of more than 20 years got stolen i got a bit depressed. who wouldn’t be? i stopped blogging here; i put on hold a lot of bike-related stuff; it took some cussing, some bashing and a whole lot of cursing. it took a while but i got mostly over it. so now i’m back with more bike stuff.
first thing on the get-back-on-track list is to try and get another bike. i got some parts already but not enough for a complete bike. i got formula’s fixed-fixed hubs for a song thanks to andrei of hocus. i got really nice bullhorns. more pictures later. promise. the frame will be done soon and comes with a headset already. i got a bottom bracket ready and waiting. the last few things to get are a stem, front brake, cranks, pedals, 1⁄8 chain, inner tubes and tires and a seatpost. i’ll likely get them individually whenever the funds find me. oh, i also have to get a decent bike lock. and actually use it.
the second one is to start going over my bike-related feeds and choose which i like enough to repost here. and there are more than a thousand unread posts in those feeds.
so, i’ll see you again shortly.
i got my bike stolen this morning. its a black steel racer bike, single speed, size 49, with a black bullhorn. it looks exactly like the picture. its been with me for more than 15 years and its kind of special in the sense that it helped me in my recovery. please watch out for it guys. if you happen to see it please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. thanks.
the kids from the streets of nairobi show the world how to do it.
i’ve been riding a plain black bike for more than a decade and it needs a change of clothes. a big one. i’ve been wanting to have it repainted but i’ve always put it off for varying reasons—mostly, financial.
i still don’t have the resources for a strip and repaint but i can plan what graphics i would want to put in myself. i’ve been itching to have a something else other than one plain color painted on the bike.
either that or i need a lot of very colorful markers.
