i’m pausing for a short bit and taking a breather. my brain’s a bit messy right now and i don’t want it to spill over this blog. i’m venting someplace else on the net. i’ll post here again once things are no longer messy.
its a bike show and festival at the collective on thursday, march 12 from 11:00am to 11:00pm.
The word “kuklos” in Greek has two meanings—it’s the word for “bicycle” but can also refer to a “circle or collective of like-minded people.” The Kuklos sa Kolektiv bicycle show and festival will bring together the diverse groups in the cycling community—from BMX riders, to mountain bikers, to fixies, to folding bikers, to vintage bike enthusiasts, and more—to celebrate the different ways of having fun on two wheels. We’re inviting people with the wackiest, coolest, most colorful, and most unique bikes to join our bike show, where prizes await the winners.
The event will also educate non-cyclists about the joys and benefits of bike-riding for both individuals and cities. We’re inviting activists and even government representatives to give talks about making our streets more bike-friendly.
By building a critical mass of cyclists we can together advocate for a more humane, livable, and bike-friendly Metro Manila.
i want to be there to take photos and i just might bring kiks along if i plan on not staying after dark. for those of you who plan on visiting and/or staying after sunset don’t forget your blinkies. and you do have your helmet with you, right?
the Entrace fee is free if you bring any second-hand clean and service-able bicycle accessories or parts, which will be donated to less fortunate bike commuters (bike lights, reflectors, helmets, bicycle locks, atbp).
other activities are: open bike show with prizes from hocus bikes for best-looking bikes; exhibition by pinoy trials; bike film screenings (this i’d like to see); talks by leading bike activists; bike bazaar; musical performances; raffles (they’re raffling off cool bike stuff and even a free bike-tour of baguio city and stay at bliss homestay and some bike stuff from hocus newold bikes)

No Helmet, No Ride!
the theme this time is bicycle revolution where an environmentally sustainable transportation (est) system should be implemented within metro manila. the department of transportation & communications (dotc) and the department of environment & natural resources (denr) already has plans for an est which includes clean and efficient mass transport systems i.e. trains, lrt, and brt (bus rapid transit). the organizers of this tour—the firefly brigade—just wants to make sure that the bicycle is included in the implementation. its a simple solution to an increasingly complicated problem.
no route has been announced yet but helmets are required (as always). i will post more details as i get them. you can also check out the event’s facebook page.
update: 09 feb: the ride will be about 42km long and will wind from Pasig, San Juan, quezon city, manila, Pasay then back to Pasig.
