my cerebrovascular accidents

my first happened on the morning of april 10. there was this unusual ringing in my right ear and almost immediately after my knees turned into mush and room started to spin. i was able to sit down on a stool, lean on a wall and felt a cold sweat coming on. waves of dizziness accompanied by nausea poured in and i started to barf my guts out. at this point i was lying down on the floor already — trying to hold on to the floor with eyes closed and trying hard to convince myself that the room wasn’t actually spinning. i was on the floor for the rest of the afternoon. i was able to crawl to bed in the evening.
friday, april 11 was spent mostly in bed. sleeping. i wasn’t able to eat any meal but i was able to take in fluids. thankfully, the dizziness has mostly dissipated. the following two days were totally better and i started improving. i was moving about, doing some chores and some work. the appetite is up as well. and monday, the 14th of april, i was even able to drive a short distance. but tuesday, the 15th of april is the day i am seeing an ear doctor. i had a suspicion that what happened to
the second one came while i was waiting for my turn at the ear doctor’s clinic. i was seated when that familiar ringing in my right ear came. i suddenly broke into a cold sweat. i closed my eyes and braced myself for the dizziness and nausea.
everything seems a blur from that point. i remember being transferred to a wheelchair, moved to the doctor’s clinic, the doctor deciding on confinement, wheeled out to a taxi and then driven to the emergency wing of manila doctor’s hospital.
i got discharged april 21 — seven days in manila doctors hospital. i’ll put in more entries about my confinement another time when i get the extra time for it.
for those that do not know, cerebrovascular accident is the medical term for a stroke.

Noel,
I’m glad you’re out of the hospital. Take care of your health, pare. As a healtcare provider and a friend, I suggest you try to avoid another episode of a stroke which often will come back if you don’t do something to prevent it…like change of lifestyle. I care for you, bro.
You’re already into cycling and it’s a great therapy. I have riding buddies who came back from serious stroke and they are riding well.
BTW, I’m actually going to an 8-hour Stroke class tomorrow and hopefully, I won’t be your nurse the next time around…..or else, you’re gonna have an enema and a urinary catheter from me whether you like it or not…..and you’ll be sorry by then and you”ll be in the PR news on how tiny your thingy is hehehehehehehe.
Welcome back, Noel!

Noel.
Thank God that you are back. It is a warning sign for you. Better take care of yourself well, if not for yourself for your son’s sake. Thank you for letting us know how you are and sharing what had happened to you. Will keep you in our prayers.

Hello Cute,
I was just in Manila a couple of weeks ago to attend Tatang and Mom’s 50th wedding anniversary. I was still there pala when you had a stroke. Good to hear you’re doing fine. Nagyo-yosi ka pa rin ba? Tigil mo na yan Bok…not good for your health and hits on your wealth. Thank God nalusutan mo ang 1st so wag mo na hintayin ang 2nd. Ika nga ni Gigette, warning na yan. Usap tayo sa YM when you’re up and kicking. i will set a time with Donnie and Chuck Tiangco.
Take care bro,
Aitit

Dear Noel,
We were clueless. Thank God you are back to good health, one of His blessings. So, hindi lang pala kami ang tumatanda… As we grow older we appreciate life and good health a great deal more. We are thankful for what we can do for our family and our community.
Since we only get to see each other at Christmas time, I’ll ask Marilyn to possibly organize a reunion in the middle of the year. We can host too.
Bigkis turns 30 this year, so the kids who come to club get younger (or seems like it because we are getting older!). Still, I do think it helps us to stay young — being with young people. God bless you.
